Most of TEISHOKU are based on WASHOKU traditional culture of Japanese food SHIO SABA TEISHOKU 塩さば定食

 

◆ Staple Japanese meal TEISHOKU ◆



We have a traditional culture of Japanese food. It is called ”Washoku” 和食 in Japanese. Most of TEISHOKU are based on WASHOKU.

Usually five items are served in a tray at TEISHOKU restaurant. Basically, Teishoku is consist of miso soup, rice, one main dish, and two small side dishes.

 

It is good for our health because it is consist of an ideal balanced-nutrition.

I'm fish lover, so I really like SHIO SABA TEISHOKU (grilled salted mackerel set meals) .

The SHIO SABA TEISHOKU I often eat at familiar diner is so delicious. Especially, it has the right amount of salt in it and fluffy by good grilling.  

 

Main Dish

Teishoku meals offer a range of dishes for the main, from delicious deep-fried foods to healthier fish options.

Fish is a popular main dish for teishoku. Grilled, broiled, and stewed fish dishes are a healthy teishoku selection, such as sanma shioyaki (salt grilled Pacific saury) or shio saba (grilled salted mackerel set mealse). 

Other teishoku main dishes may include yakiniku, gyoza, nabe and more.


Side Dishes

One of the best things about teishoku is the wide variety of side dishes that accompany it, allowing you to enjoy many different flavors and textures. These include healthy salads like shiro-ae (mashed tofu salad), carrot and daikon radish, kinpira gobo (burdock root salad), and hijiki seaweed salad. Japanese pickles, known as “tsukemono”, are another frequent accompaniment and are made from cucumber, radish, cabbage, and other vegetables.

For a heartier side, you may want to try tamagoyaki, a sweet and savory Japanese rolled omelet, or agedashi tofu, which is deep fried tofu in a dashi broth.


Miso Soup

Miso soup is another essential component for teishoku meals. It will almost always be included in a teishoku set, unless the main dish is already a soup. Made from dashi broth and miso soybean paste, miso soup can also include ingredients like tofu and wakame seaweed. It goes well with rice. 


Rice

Short-grained white rice is the heart of Japanese food and central to any teishoku meal. It’s available in many different domestic varieties, with the most well-known being-known being koshihikari. 

 


 
There are lots of IZAKAYA in business district but at lunch time they operate as a Teishoku restaurant to serve only Teishoku for office workers.


Most of Teishoku cost around 800 yen, which is affordable for young workers, more over, they can have free refills of rice, so Teishoku restaurants are more popular for office workers. "ごはんおかわり自由!" is free refills of rice.


In addition, they can eat at the same restaurant for a whole week because Teishoku restaurants serve “today’s special lunch” 日替わり定食 every day.

When it comes to Tempura Teishoku and Sashimi Teishoku, prices are higher than others.

You could eat a Teishoku which is an authentic Japanese dishes in a casual, unassuming atmosphere. The next time you’re in Japan, why not order a teishoku meal at IZAKAYA?
