Travel Tips ③ Useful items for travel - DAISO IS YOUR BEST FRIEND

◆ DAISO IS YOUR BEST FRIEND ◆

DAISO is one of the most popular stores in Japan! As you already know, everything is sold at 100 yen (tax excluded) in DAISO, products are affordable but also great value for money. Moreover, DAISO amazes us with its wide variety of products. Apparently, each store houses over 70,000 products on average! If you haven’t been to Daiso Japan yet, it would be a journey worth taking a look.

I'd introduce the most useful items for travel that will make your trip comfortable moreover.

* USEFUL ITEMS FOR YOUR TRIP

1. Refill bottles

Refill bottles are must-have items for a trip. DAISO promised a wide selection of them in different sizes and shapes, moreover, the quality is absolutely great for the value.
There are so many types of refill bottles! There is a limit to the amount of liquid that can be carried on board, so refill your favorite makeup and go on a trip.

2. Pill CASE / BOX

There are many types of pill cases:
- subdivided for a week
- convenient to carry when going on a trip
- connected and stored

It is very convenient because it can be used not only as a medicine or supplement but also as an accessory case.

3. COTTON SWAB

I think that many people use ear picks, but there are many many people love cotton swab because it is soft and comfortable. So, there are various types of cotton swabs at DAISO.

4. SANITIZING WIPES

I always carry sanitizing wipes and wet wet wipes with me.
These wipes are useful, as some restaurants do not offer hand towels.

5. VACUUM SEAL BAGS

Vacuum Seal Bags are extremely useful to make extra space easily in your luggage, and it’s totally reusable and unbelievably costs only 100 yen each.

6. MINI LAUNDRY NET / HANGER

I also recommend to use laundry net instead of the pouch, and I often do it. If you have a lot of light clothing like summer clothes, a laundry net is enough! On the other hand, if you have a lot of winter clothes, use vacuum seal bags.

Hotel rooms are often dry, so if you dry them, it will only take overnight. There are various types of laundry hanger but if you want to take it on a trip, you should bring a compact one or a foldable one. If you don't have enough pinches, you can hang a corded clothespin to dry more laundry.

7. EYE MASK / PILLOW

The eye mask gently covers your eyes to enhance rest and sleep. This product includes soft form-fitting earplugs which effectively reduce noise. It would help you to have a comfortable sleep while traveling.

If you have a neck pillow or not, the comfort of long-haul flights is completely different. If you sleep well on board, you can start working as soon as you arrive. There are several types of neck pillows, such as air type that allows air to enter and microbeads, so you can find the one that suits you. The air type is convenient to carry if you let the air out, but the pillow may swell or deflate depending on the air pressure, and you may have to adjust the air several times while on a flight.

8. SOCKS

People often run out of their socks while traveling. But we don’t really wanna spare money for socks just to survive for one day or so. A pair of DAISO socks cost only 100 yen and they feel alright.

9. PORTABLE LATRINE

As a disaster prevention goods, the portable toilet is a hot topic these days, but it is a reassuring item even when traveling abroad. While traveling with small children, you may suddenly need a toilet. During sightseeing, you can reduce your worries by just putting one in your bag.

 10. DIAL LOCK / PADLOCK

Daiso has many security locks such as dial type, padlock type, small key that can be passed through the hole of the fastener, and wire type. If you're traveling a long distance by train, or if you want to take a nap at the airport, it's uneasy to leave your luggage unlocked. You may also want to lock in your room, such as when staying in a dormitory or a cheap hotel.

11. SUITCASE BELT

This baggage strap is convenient when you have more baggage. If you attach this belt to your suitcase, you can carry a small amount of baggage such as a souvenir bought at the airport or a child's backpack by hooking it on your suitcase. It's a very useful item, especially when traveling with children who have a lot of luggage.

12. FOLDING SLIPPERS

There is no doubt that it will be handy even during long flights. To secure space, it is best to fold it if you carry it on board.

13. COMPACT TOWEL

A compressed towel that can be rehydrated with water. It's so small that it doesn't become baggage anyway.
It's just right to remove makeup and wipe your face at the airport.

14. INSTANT HOT PAD

Since winter in Japan is cold, we recommend Cairo for winter sightseeing. "Cairo" is an excellent product that gives you just the right amount of warmth in a few seconds as soon as you open the package. The structure that generates heat is relatively simple, and it applies chemical changes caused by iron, oxygen in the air, and water. There are body warmers that you can hold in your hand or put in your pocket, body warmers that have adhesive tape that you can attach to clothes, and eco-friendly body warmers that you can heat in a microwave and reuse.

If you buy a product for100 yen, you can throw it away after using it, or even if you lose it, there is little damage, so you can use it with confidence. Please take a look at Daiso!

The Global Love Affair with Japanese Culture #1

I t’s not uncommon to encounter people on platforms like YouTube and other social media who, surprisingly, have a deeper love for Japanese culture than many Japanese themselves. Among the aspects they are most passionate about are Japan’s entertainment offerings, such as manga , anime , and movies. The term “ otaku ” has even gained recognition overseas, and many people proudly refer to themselves as otaku. Interestingly, the word “otaku” originally had a  negative connotation  in Japan during the 2000s, used to describe middle-aged men who were enthusiasts of  computers, idols, or two-dimensional anime . However, with the widespread use of computers and smartphones, the term has taken on a positive meaning, referring to “ people who are deeply passionate about something ” or “ those who are highly knowledgeable in a particular field .” One reason for this reevaluation of otaku culture is the phenomenon of Japan’s  manga, anime, movies, games, and cosplay  gai...

Why Japanese Izakaya Culture Is More Than Just Drinking After Work

Izakaya and the Culture of Entertaining in Japan In Japan,  izakaya  — casual restaurants where people gather to eat and drink — are a common sight. But from an international perspective, izakaya are a unique blend of two worlds: in many Western countries, meals are typically enjoyed at restaurants, while alcohol is reserved for bars or pubs. The combination of food and drink in a single, laid-back setting is part of what makes izakaya culture so special. Izakaya menus are extensive, with dishes meant to be shared among groups. Diners enjoy small plates alongside a wide range of alcoholic options, including beer, sake , shochu , umeshu (plum wine), and fruit-flavored “ chuhai .” One surprising concept for many foreigners is the  “all-you-can-drink”  ( nomihodai ) option, often available for a set time. Late-night hours are another defining feature, with many izakaya staying open until the early morning. It’s common to move from one place to another in a night...
